Critical vulnerability affecting Outlook on Windows

What happened?

On Tuesday, March 14, Microsoft reported a critical vulnerability affecting Outlook on Windows. This issue is not specific to Harvard but affects all Outlook users on Windows systems. To protect against this vulnerability, HUIT is pushing an update to Microsoft 365 to protect your account.

What do I need to do?

You will need to install the update to patch the vulnerability and protect your account.
  • When prompted with the message “Save your work before continuing. We need to close the following apps: ...”, click “Continue” to install the update.
  • If you do not see the prompt, please restart Outlook.

To manually check for and apply updates, follow these steps and restart Outlook.
